Learn the “pop music” of the early 20th century! This course will delve into jazz standards and show tunes of the 1920s-50s, exploring how composers such as Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington and George Gershwin, along with vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra created timeless classics that artists continue to sing today. Students will have the opportunity to perform for their classmates using elements of style, tonality and improvisation that we will discuss and put into practice.
Arts Enrichment Sessions are four or eight week courses offering high quality, specialized music education to any interested young person aged 8-18.
All sessions will take place virtually on Zoom between September 14 and February 6 between 4:00pm CST and 7:00pm CST. A personal device with internet access is required to participate. For educational and marketing purposes, all sessions will be recorded.
No classes will be held November 22-26 or December 14 – January 9. Many sessions have more than one class time available. There will be a place to indicate your schedule preference, and we will do our best to accommodate requests. Based on enrollment, CCC staff may need to place singers in the next available time-slot or session.
