Voice of Chicago - Chicago Children's Choir

Voice of Chicago is our premier mixed-voice ensemble, maintaining an extensive performance schedule that includes touring and collaborations with Chicago’s finest cultural institutions.

Members of Voice of Chicago have performed for former President and Secretary of State Clinton, former South African President Nelson Mandela and His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso. Additionally, they have performed with celebrities such as Luciano Pavarotti, Samuel Ramey, Andrea Bocelli and Bobby McFerrin.

Voice of Chicago has toured to over 25 nations on five continents, including: Italy, Cuba, South Africa, India, Argentina, Uruguay and South Korea.

Voice of Chicago is presented by Allstate.

Interested in joining?

Experienced singers who will be in high school for the 2020-2021 school year (age 14 and up) may audition for Voice of Chicago, CCC’s most advanced level of programming. This year’s audition process requires access to the internet and a personal electronic device. STEP 1: Pre-Screening Audition – to be completed by June 1, 2020

Auditioning singers will be required to submit a one-minute video recording of themselves singing an excerpt of their choice.

  • The selection should showcase a wide vocal range.
  • The excerpt can be taken from a song in whatever style is most comfortable for the singer, including but not limited to classical, musical theater, gospel, pop/Top 40, folk, jazz, R&B, etc.
  • Perform with expression, as though in front of an audience.
  • Song excerpt must be performed a cappella (with no accompaniment or track).

STEP 2: Callback Auditions –  June 8 – 13, 2020

All pre-screening auditions will be reviewed by the CCC Senior Artistic Staff, and select singers will be “called back” for a second round of auditions. Study and practice materials will be posted on this web page. These auditions will be arranged as individual meetings over Zoom with the Senior Artistic Staff. Singers will be vocalized through their range and may be asked to do any of the following: 

  • Complete tonal memory, rhythm exercises and melodic sight-singing
  • Perform choreography from Champion Medley
  • Perform Jubilate Deo and Revelation 19

The final list of accepted singers to Voice of Chicago will be announced by June 15, 2020.

Singers who are not accepted in Voice of Chicago are encouraged to continue at one of CCC’s 11 Neighborhood Choir programs or DiMension. 

A virtual “Welcome Day” for the 2020-2021 Voice of Chicago will be on Saturday, June 20, 2020.
