Through the In-School Choir program, over 4,200 children in 92 Chicago schools receive classroom training in basic music theory and choral performance from professional music educators.
Students in the In-School Program have the opportunity to fully explore the expressive qualities of music while developing a sense of self-discipline, pride and intercultural understanding. Our model is in line with the National Standards for Music Education and the Chicago Guide for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, which is distributed by the Chicago Public Schools Department of Arts Education.
Participating schools commit to weekly rehearsals and providing a suitable room with a piano/keyboard. Choir singers have performance opportunities both in their own school and across the city during field trips organized by Chicago Children’s Choir.
