Meet us on our Sankofa journey (an Akan Ghanaian word meaning to go or return and retrieve what was lost) as we seek to remember African legacy in America; reclaim the pride, dignity, and joy that was strained by the grip of colonialism; and, reconnect generations to Africans globally. Our vibrant musical voyage proudly spans four Africana countries, including Perú, Nigeria, and Jamaica.

By uniting participants from our school program with captivating guest speakers, members of our Neighborhood Choir program, and our citywide ensembles, Dimension and Voice of Chicago, this dynamic educational program will animate and celebrate the vast and vivacious culture of the African Diaspora through a captivating blend of music, oration and history.

This concert will be livestreamed through YouTube, Facebook and our website.

The Jackson Family

As we prepared for our annual Black History Month concert, Choir Alum Santita Jackson and her mother Jacqueline Jackson visited some of our singers to talk about Black history and the role music plays in addressing injustice.

Black History Month Virtual Concert 2022 is sponsored by Jackson Legacy Foundation and Jamie & Brian Vandenberg.
