WHITNEY COVALLE
Lincoln Park/Depaul Neighborhood Conductor
Whitney Covalle is in her third season as conductor of the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Choir and also assists in preparing the children’s chorus of the Lyric Opera which is made up of singers from Chicago Children’s Choir. Originally from Wheaton, Illinois, Mrs. Covalle holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University in Music Education, a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Westminster Choir College, and certification in level 1 Orff-Schulwerk Methodology.
In addition to her duties at Chicago Children’s Choir, Mrs. Covalle is in her ninth year teaching choir to students of all ages in the public and private schools, currently at The Francis Xavier Warde School. Prior to moving to Chicago, Mrs. Covalle began teaching in Lansing, Michigan where she established two elementary school choirs for the Lansing Public Schools and was the Assistant Director for the top-rated Haslett High School’s production of
The Sound of Music
. In Philadelphia, Mrs. Covalle was the Music Teacher at Conshohocken Elementary for four years where she implemented a unique general music program for elementary school children, directed a children’s choir, implemented a handbell choir program, and produced many original musical productions including
Rockin’ Nursery Rhymes
and
Annie Meets Oz
. She also served as music director for two years with the same school district at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School for the productions of
The Wizard of Oz
and
My Favorite Year
.
After returning to Chicago in 2005, Mrs. Covalle was the choir director at Rich Central and Rich East High School in the south suburbs of Chicago where she directed four choirs, one of which was awarded the Best of Day honor at the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Competition. Most recently, Mrs. Covalle was the choir director at Glenbard West High School where she directed the three curricular and extra-curricular choirs including the men’s a capella group Voicemale and the Madrigal Singers who produced a Holiday Madrigal Dinner. Mrs. Covalle lives in Chicago with her husband and daughter.
