JULIA SHAW
In-School & Albany Park Neighborhood Conductor     

Julia Shaw is the Conductor of the Albany Park Neighborhood Choir and In-School Program of Chicago Children’s Choir. She recently moved to Chicago from Indianapolis, IN where she served as Choir Director at Zionsville West Middle School, Assistant Director of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, and Director of Children’s Music at Second Presbyterian Church. In the summer 2008, Mrs. Shaw joined the adjunct faculty at the University of St. Thomas, where she taught a graduate level course in child voice development. Mrs. Shaw holds a Master of Music in choral conducting from Butler University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University, where she graduated with high distinction. She is a certified Kodály educator, having completed levels I, II and III at Indiana University. Her professional affiliations include Music Educators National Conference, American Choral Directors Association, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity.

Prior to teaching in Zionsville, Mrs. Shaw was the Choir Director at Eastwood Middle School in Indianapolis. She also spent four years on staff with the Indiana University Children’s Choir as musicianship teacher and conductor’s assistant. Mrs. Shaw was honored as Teacher of the Year for Zionsville West Middle School and Zionsville Community Schools in 2006-2007. Under Mrs. Shaw’s direction, the Zionsville West Middle School Choir has appeared at the Indiana Music Educators Association State Convention and as a partner choir with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. Mrs. Shaw enjoys serving as a clinician for the IMEA Noncompetitive and Circle the State with Song festivals. Her students have regularly been selected to perform with the ACDA Central Division Honor Choir and the IMEA All-State Honor Choir. While she’s not teaching, she enjoys distance running and has completed four marathons.
